ABOUT CHRISTINE

I am professor of flute at Mansfield University located in the beautiful Endless Mountains of PA where we have a thriving music department. I also teach Keyboard Skills, Body Mapping for Musicians, and Music Fundamentals.  The Mansfield High School Summer Flute Intensive is held in early summer every year.

As a licensed Body Mapping Educator (see bodymap.org) and certified Timani teacher (timani.no) I am available for workshops, presentations and lessons.

Regular performances are with the Manhattan Contemporary Chamber Ensemble (MCCE), Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra, the annual Finger Lakes Chamber Music Festival and the annual Bach by Candlelight concerts at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Elkins Park, PA.

Notable concerts have been with Manhattan Chamber Orchestra and MCCE in various Manhattan venues including Symphony Space, Zankel and Weill Halls at Carnegie Hall. MCCE also performed at National Flute Association conventions in Phoenix, San Diego and Orlando, the New Jersey Flute Society, Rochester Flute Association and many other concert venues in the northeast. Previously a member of the Allentown Symphony, I also participated in the Spoleto Festivals in the USA and Italy.

Annual favorite events include the Bach By Candlelight concerts each December at St. Paul’s Church in Elkins Park, PA and live concerts on WXXI and WVIA Radio Stations. Here I am with former student Derek Smilowski in a Bach Brandenburg Concerto, around 25:00: www.youtu.be/bfnm38lXV3M). Allan Kozinn said in the New York Times review of Richard Auldon Clark’s “Four Sketches” for flute and string trio, “Christine Moulton gave its flute line a shapely, colorful reading…”

Workshops and master classes have been for the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia, Rochester Flute Association, Pocono Flute Society, Penn State Flute Fairs, Pittsburgh Flute Club, NYSSMA, Muhlenberg College Music Department, Flute Fest of Central PA, Hochstein School Summer Flute Camp and others.

See the “Workshops for All Musicians” page for a variety of topics and workshops offered.

First place winner in the James Pappoutsakis Flute Competition, 1993.

Secretary of the Marcel Moyse Society

My devotion to helping musicians play with more ease began with Lea Pearson’s Body Mapping for Flutists: What Every Flute Teacher Needs to Know About the Body and developed into being a licensed Body Mapping Educator and certified Timani Teacher. The Timani technique is an approach to playing more effectively based in Oslo, Norway.

My gratitude continues for inspired teachers including Keith Underwood, Bart Feller, Sandra Church, William Grass, Selma Moore, William Bennett, Jennifer Johnson and Lea Pearson and to all the students I have worked with who have helped me become a better teacher.

I am also a long term practitioner of Ashtanga Yoga. I am grateful to my teacher Greg Tebb for his wise guidance.
